About

concise.press is a modern publishing house specialising in concise versions of public domain historical texts and translations.

We believe that the tone and content of the original work shines through a concise version giving a great insight into the original author and what he or she wanted to say. We recognise that many people cannot afford the time and effort to read the original text and we try to supplement written content with podcasts and videos and other media for those that do not want to read at all.

Our first publication is, Herodotus – The Concise Histories, the original history book written in Greece around 440 BC. It is a varied and imaginative work starting with the history of Croesus, the rich King of Lydia who was vexed that Solon did not recognise him as the happiest man in the world. We see how Cyrus the Great takes over the Persian and Lydian empire before ‘drinking his fill of blood’. His mad son Cambyses invades Egypt leaving Darius and his co-conspirators to save the empire from an imposter. His son, Xerxes, weeps as his army invades Greece and we get the full story of the battle of Thermopylae with the 300 Spartans and the naval battle of Salamis.

We are looking for history enthusiasts, teachers, and academics who have the desire and skills to create a concise version of a public domain historical work. Our next two publications will be Suetonius – The Concise 12 Emperors and Arrian – The Concise Alexander the Great. Please get in touch if you have an idea for a book that needs a concise version particularly if you are in a position to create the book for us to publish.
